Body Champ Inversion Table

Looking for a cheap, basic inversion table that gets the job done? There are a few options out there, but today we’re specifically taking a look at the Body Champ IT8070 Inversion Table.

Coming in at around $130 this won’t break the bank, but can it fend off other challengers in this price range and stand on its own as a good, solid inversion table? Let’s see how it shapes up.

Features

This is a basic inversion table. While it isn’t rich in features, it is very simple to use and set up. A deluxe dual-pin system makes it easy to set up your height correctly, and the table supports users from 4’7″ right through to a very tall 6’8″. The maximum weight rating is 250 pounds. There is a set of fairly long U-shaped handrails to help you move in and out of inversion should you need them.

Inversion angles can be controlled with a safety strap, while a safety lock keeps the table firmly in place.

Finally, the bed is padded with high-density foam for added comfort. So, all the basics are catered for.

Ankle System

The ankle lock system on the Body Champ inversion table is quite simply four foam padded rollers with a spring-loaded pull pin. From experience, we know that rollers are not the most comfortable of ankle setups on inversion tables, so it will be interesting to see just how comfortable these are.

Assembly

Assembly on the Body Champ table is fairly easy, although the packaging can be a bit messy. The included wrenches simply aren’t up to the task though. You want to tighten everything properly before staking your safety on this table, and for that, you will need a proper wrench. A decent socket wrench will help you get the job done quicker and better.

The instructions aren’t all that great, but it’s not a particularly difficult assembly and you should be able to figure out how everything sticks together without too much trouble. Expect to spend 30 minutes to an hour on it.

Using the Table

Body ChampSetting the height is easy enough, although you may find that you need to set the height a little lower than your actual height to get the best balance and positioning. The height selection indicator is unfortunately a sticker, and we can see this scraping off over time. The table bed is nicely cushioned and not at all unpleasant to lie on.

The standard spring-loaded pin setup for securing your ankles is quick to get used to. As we feared, however, the padded rollers used for ankle clamps on this model are just not that comfortable. This is a problem on all budget inversion tables and ultimately you get what you pay for.

Wearing shoes (especially high-top boots) is highly recommended, and you can also try some padding of your own to increase the comfort factor. Right now though the ankle clamps seem to be the major letdown on this table.

On the plus side, the table feels very sturdy and solid. Once balanced, inversion works as expected, with simple control by lowering and raising your arms. The strap for adjusting the inversion angle does its job as well as you’d expect. The handrails are pleasantly long and easy to grab onto when you need them, and you will need them to get upright again if you haven’t got your center of gravity fine-tuned yet.

Finally, the table doesn’t fold up to any large extent. To really collapse it for storing under a bed or in a closet you’ll have to disassemble some of the parts.

Verdict

The Body Champ IT8070 is a safe and functional basic inversion table. If all you want to do is invert a few minutes a day, this machine will do the job. The ankle supports aren’t the most comfortable, but they can be remedied with custom padding or shoes. It’s not the smoothest inverting table around, but for the price, there’s very little to complain about here. Safe, sturdy, and effective.
